10.Mother was packing red packets during Chinese New Year. If she put $8 in each packet, she would be $25 short and if she put $10 in each packet, she would need $45 more. How much money did Mother have?




*9.At a multi-storey carpark , 40% of the vehicles were cars. 90% of the remainder were vans and the rest were buses. There were 42 more vans than cars. After some cars left the car park , 10% of the vehicles at the car park are cars. How many vehicles were still at the car park?


Car--->2u                        60x3=180
Van--->2.7u                   180/9=20  
Bus--->0.3u                    20x10=200  
0.7u=42
1u=60

Ans:200



*8.A salesman bought 240 booksmarks. He sold 60% of them at $3 each . 0.5 of the remainder was sold at $2 each. The rest he sold at a cost . He made a profit of $336 from the sale.

a.Find the amount he collected from  selling the bookmarks priced at $3 each. 

b. Find the cost of each bookmark.

60% x 240 =144(3)

240-144=96

0.5x96=48(2)

144x3+48x2-336=192

144+48=192

192/192=1

7.Lucy and Ling Hui shared the cost of a present in the ratio of 2:3. Lucy used half of her money to pay for her share. After paying for her share, Ling Hui had $98 left. The ratio of the amount of money that  Lucy and Ling Hui had before buying the present was 3:4. How much did the present cost?




6.Ben and Jerry wanted to walk to a park. Ben started walking at an average speed of 30m/min from point X. Jerry started at point Z which was 50m behind point X. His speed was 60m/min. Both of them started walking at the same time. 

a.When Jerry reached point X, how far was Ben ahead of him?
b. The park was 200m away from point X. When Jerry reached the park how far from the park was Ben?

5.2/3 of the workers in a company are females. 1/2 of the male workers are Malaysians and the rest are Singaporeans. There are 16 Malaysians.a)How many workers are there in the company?b)If 13 of the female workers are Malaysians and the rest are Singaporeans, how many Singaporean workers are there in  the company?


Make the number of male to be divisible by two since Malaysian and Singaporeans male are equal.a)1x2=2(units for male)2x2=4(units for female)1/2x2=11u=164+2=6(total units)6x16=96

b)4x16=6464-13=51
51+16=67

4.Ryan bought some pears and apples in the ratio of 3:5 respectively. The cost of an apple was $0.50 less than the cost of a pear. He spent a total of $95 buying the pears and apples. The total cost of the apples was $5 more than the total cost of the pears. How much did each pear cost?







3.Shop A and Shop B are selling iPads. If Shop A sells iPad at a discount of 10%, its discounted selling price will be $300 more than the usual selling price in Shop B. If Shop A sells the iPad at a discount of  50%, its discounted selling price will be $100 less than  the usual selling price in Shop B. Find the usual selling price of the iPad in Shop B. 



For the above question, use model and percentage.






2. It takes Mrs Tan 7 hours to sew a dress by herself. If Mrs Ong helps her, they will take 3 hours to sew the dress. How long will Mrs Ong take to sew the dress by herself?

1h:1/7 sewed
Together:3h
1h:1/3 sewed
1/3-1/7=4/21
21/4=5.25

*1.Renee had 8/11 of the number of game cards Lucy had. Lucy lost 18 cards to Renee. They had both equal number of cards left.
a.How many more game cards did Lucy have than  Renee at first?
b.As the game continued, Renee won more cards from Lucy. How many more cards did Lucy lose to Renee such that Renee had 3 times as many cards as her?

    For Q2, method to use is fractions, Break it up into per hour.
    eg
    In 1 hour:
    Tan:1/7 dress
    Ong & Tan: 1/3 dress
    ...
